Mariinsky theatre in Cyprus

After much deliberation, the final choice of the authorities of Paphos nevertheless fell on the world-famous Mariinsky Theater from St. Petersburg. It is Mariinka that in 2012 will stage the opera Othello by Giuseppe Verdi in the framework of official cultural events during the EU presidency of Cyprus.

This decision was reached by the special committee of the organization Pafos Aphrodite Festival, which considered Mariinka to be the most high-class theater worthy of participating in world-class political events.

The main reason for much thought, there was no doubt in the quality of the productions, but rather the considerable prices for the services of the world-famous theater. There were other applicants – this is the Kiev and Berlin Opera Houses.

According to the newspaper “Filelefteros”, representatives of the Russian side have already flown to Paphos to discuss the last details before signing the contract. The choice of “Othello” was not accidental: besides the fact that this work is widely known to the public all over the world, but the events of the opera unfold exactly in Cyprus.
